Jim Roethe’s:
Enchanting Tales:

Stories with wings, wonder, and a little wisdom.

Jim Roethe’s new children’s book brings together original stories, hand-drawn illustrations, birds, animals, poetry, and the kind of gentle moral lessons that have made fables beloved for generations.

Over time the stories became richer, more polished, and more meaningful.

This collection gathers twelve of those tales, each paired with original illustrations and a poem that hints at the heart of the story.

Some stories introduce children to birds and the natural world.

Others simply invite them into a tale of kindness, curiosity, cleverness, and imagination.

What began as a family tradition became a book.

While visiting his grandchildren in London, Jim Roethe began making up stories on the spot.

His grandchildren would suggest animals, and Jim would add one essential ingredient: a bird.

Inside
the book

A poem for every story

Each story begins with a short poem. For Jim, poetry offers a way to capture the thread of a tale before the story unfolds.

The poems are simple, lyrical, and designed to give young readers another way into the meaning of each story.

Read first, they offer a clue. Read again after the story, they reveal a little more.
